Picture this: it's the middle of February in Ohio, and finally a day comes that is perfect for being outside. It's still cold, but sunny, and you take the opportunity to go for a walk to get some fresh air or play outside with your children.

Then, disaster strikes - instead of going back inside to a warm, cozy house, it's nearly as cold as it was outside! Somehow, your heating system has stopped working, and now you're heading into panic mode.

At Auburn Heating, Plumbing, and Air Conditioning, we see problems like this all the time. And, for the most part, many customers we hear from have issues that can usually be fixed quite easily, or could have been prevented altogether with some regular upkeep and general maintenance during the off-season.

Below, we have listed a few scenarios that you may encounter with your heating system, and what you can do to troubleshoot the problem before calling in the professionals.

1. It may seem silly, but sometimes the problem can be as simple as a pilot light that has blown out. If this is the case, you can try to relight it yourself, or give us a call to see if we can examine it further and prevent future issues.

2. An unkempt furnace can be just as useless as a broken one, so if you're finding that your heating system is not working or just not heating as well as it should, it could be due to a dirty filter. During the warmer months when you're not using your heat, take the time to make sure it is in tip-top condition. For general furnace maintenance, you can vacuum around the furnace's blower to prevent buildup, and even clean out the fan blades so nothing is getting trapped and making it run slower. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, our team of professionals is happy to help.

3. A bigger problem that may be more fit for a professional to take care of is a broken belt. You can tell if this is the problem if you are finding that your furnace's motor is running but not blowing out any hot air. It is an easy issue to identify, and we are equipped to handle it for you.

If you have any other issues, the furnace repair experts at Auburn Heating, Plumbing, and Air Conditioning are here to help. With years of experience in the industry, our HVAC contractors know just how to troubleshoot and fix any issues that may be more difficult.
